Dr. McLeod, a native of Chapel Hill, received a B.S. in Biology with honors from Guilford College in Greensboro and later a Masters of Microbiology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He is a 2002 honors graduate from the UNC School of Dentistry.

He is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Guilford County Dental Society. He and his wife, Melissa, have one child and reside in Greensboro.
